Our Story

Who was Dakota Rogers?

Who Dakota Was

Before he became the reason for a mission, Dakota Rogers was simply Dakota.

He was an 18 year old kid, the kid who made everyone laugh. The one who could turn an ordinary moment into a story people would tell for years. His friends describe him as one of the kindest people you could ever meet, a little crazy in the best way, carefree, genuine, and completely himself.

Dakota was the friend everyone called their best friend.

He had a way of making people feel included, valued, and loved. He didn’t spend his life worrying about what others thought of him. He lived boldly, laughed loudly, and embraced every adventure that came his way. Whether he was falling out of trees, playing with his dog, Biggie, or just being his wonderfully unpredictable self, Dakota brought a spark into every room he entered.

But underneath the jokes and the wild stories was a young man with a huge heart. Dakota was respectful, compassionate, and deeply cared about the people around him. He loved fiercely and was loved deeply in return.

To so many, Dakota was the light of their lives.

In 2023, Dakota’s life was tragically taken by gun violence. The loss left behind a hole that words cannot fully describe. But even in that heartbreak, his family, friends, and community chose to carry forward the things that made Dakota who he was: kindness, connection, laughter, and caring for one another.

The Dakota Rogers Project was created to honor his memory and continue the impact of a young man who made people feel seen and loved. Our mission is to create spaces where people can connect, conversations about mental wellness can happen, and no one feels like they have to face life’s challenges alone.

Dakota’s story is not just about the moment we lost him. It is about every laugh, every friendship, every act of kindness, and every person who became better because they knew him.

Because that is what Dakota did.

He made the world brighter simply by being in it.
